Organic Cherimoya
Quantity/Pack: 3 Pounds
Seasonality: Jan - Apr
Origin: USA-CA
Melissa’s Organic Cherimoyas are truly a magical fruit. Heart-shaped in appearance, their skins can range in color from light to yellowish-green to dark green, and they can be either smooth or slightly knobby. Beneath their unassuming exteriors, their ivory-colored flesh is tender, creamy and succulent. Ripe fruit opens easily by hand, and has an intensely honeyed and floral aroma. The flesh of ripe cherimoya has a candy-like sweetness, with notes of tropical fruits and strawberries. Â
Cherimoyas are also called custard apples, and they are celebrated for being “nature’s custard” – creamy and delightfully sweet. Mark Twain famously called them “the most delicious fruit known to man."
The hard, black/brown seeds of cherimoya fruits are toxic, and they should be discarded.Â
To eat, cut into wedges, remove seeds, and enjoy flesh as-is. Try adding a squeeze of fresh lime to brighten the creamy flavor. It’s easy to create a tropical flair when adding Melissa’s Organic Cherimoya to salads, fruit drinks and desserts. Combine with coconut milk and freeze for an ice cream-like dessert, or incorporate into parfaits, pies or custard desserts such as crème brulee.
Keep unripe fruit at room temperature away from direct sunlight for 1 to 4 days. Once ripe, store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Use within 3-5 days of purchase for optimum quality.
